About Me
I'm Abi Hiskey, a freelance illustrator with over ten years experience in creating fun, lively and educational illustrations for the heritage sector. My illustrations and design services have been used by museums, galleries and heritage sites around the country. Past clients have included the Museum of London and MOL Docklands, York Museums Trust and Heritage Learning based in Hull. You can read testimonials from my clients here.
Before becoming an illustrator I worked in museums and galleries for eight years; I installed exhibitions, documented collections and delivered family workshops. This past experience gives me a unique insight into what is needed from me when illustrating for a museum, gallery or heritage site. It has given me a keen eye for historical accuracy and an enthusiasm for research as well as an understanding of how to make fun, engaging trails and activities that bring subjects to life.
My illustrations have been used for a variety of purposes, including:
- Family trails
- Exhibition captions for children
- Illustrated maps
- Educational resources
- Activity sheets
- Marketing materials
- Animated videos
- Merchandise
- Life sized character cut outs!
I have also led a number of illustration and craft based workshops for families.
I’m based in York but in most cases can work completely remotely. However, if you feel it is important for me to have a site visit, I'm always happy to come and visit clients in person.
If you are planning your own project then please feel free to contact me for an informal chat about your requirements and the commissioning process.
I hope we can work together soon!
