In 2023 Hull Guildhall's Greenwich Time Ball rose and fell again for the first time in 100 years! A time ball is a huge timekeeping device - a giant ball that sits atop a building and rises and falls on its mast to signal 1pm each day. It allowed sailors to set their chronometers accurately, based on the signal sent from the Greenwich Royal Observatory to the General Post Office which was near the Guildhall.
I was asked to develop a series of illustrations to be used in a teachers pack as well as interpretation panels on display during the time ball project.
I also created a series of cityscapes and landscapes illustrating the journey of the signal sent from Greenwich to Hull. These have since been used to create an animation.
